LAPD MOUNTED PLATOON
Meet The Horses
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Police Horse "AJ." Sadly, AJ was found to be suffering from colic (an obstruction of the intestines) while he was in his stall. He passed at an equine hospital, AJ was 24 years old and was waiting for a good retirement home at the time of his passing. AJ was a work horse with a kind demeanor and was appropriately named after retired LAPD Equine Keeper Allen Jones. During his 14 years as a police horse, AJ deployed on several crowd control incidents including Laker's Championships, King's Stanley Cups and Dodger's World Series celebrations. AJ was also deployed on countless crime supression details as well as search and rescue missions. AJ's calm demeanor made him the perfect horse to put kids on and over the years several new officers rode AJ while learning to ride during Mounted School. AJ will surely be missed. LAPD thanks AJ for his service. Rest easy boy.
